Alien vs. Predator vs. Dinosaur vs. Arena

Tickets went onsale today for "Walking With Dinosaurs: The Live Experience," which will be at EnergySolutions Arena from Jan. 14 to Jan. 18. Tickets run from $19.50 to $75, plus service fees.

The multimedia show is based on the popular BBC TV series "Walking With Dinosaurs," and features 15 of the most life-like dinosaurs ever seen (except, of course, when dinosaurs still did walk the Earth).

A press event was held for the show last week, and it looks like the production will spare no expense. I mean, even the press conference had a fog machine blowing smoke over the speakers' feet.

Besides the 1.6-ton dinosaurs ( with 433 feet of hydraulic hose on each dino), there will be music composed by James Brett, who composed the scores for "Alien Vs. Predator," "Ella Enchanted" and, of course, "10,000 B.C." He also worked on the awesome collaboration that paired Metallica with the San Francisco Symphony, which produced "S & M."

The musical talent isn't limited to Brett (if you call composing "AvP" talented). Director Scott Faris has directed "Chicago" (the musical in 16 countries around the world) and Artistic Director William May co-wrote and composed the musical "Always" for the West End.

David Burger is the pop music/pop culture writer at The Salt Lake Tribune. He's been at several newspapers, including Scranton, Pennsylvania, the home of "The Office." Before that, he spent five years in the Coast Guard. There, on boring midnight watches on the bridge, he would try to keep himself awake and/or keep from throwing up by singing "Thunder Road" to himself while balancing a sextant on his nose. (He'd also look for drowning people, of course.) He also likes condiments, except when throwing up.
