For Billy Corgan's band, is "smashing" a verb or an adjective?

On Oct. 30, you can see contestants rounded up by K-Bull FM toss pumpkins off Trolley Square's Tower.

Each will aim for the sun roof of a car, 75 feet below. I think they will aim for a special car procured by K-Bull, but just to be safe, it's probably a good idea not to park your car at Trolley Square that morning.

Besides contestants' pumpkins, a huge 500-pound pumpkin will be dropped. Hopefully not on the sun roof, but then again, it's not my call.

All 20 contestants will be in costume and will join in for a 50-pumpkin grand finale drop.

The event is being called the long-titled "Johnson & Johnson present the K-Bull 93 Scary Carrie Pumpkin Drop at Trolley Square," and the winner closest to the sun roof wins $300 in cash, along with tickets & backstage passes to (above) Carrie Underwood's Nov. 19 concert at the E Center.

The smashing pumpkins begin at 11:30 am.

Listen to Johnson & Johnson in the mornings between now and Oct. 30 on K-Bull 93.3 to become a contestant.

David Burger is the pop music/pop culture writer at The Salt Lake Tribune. He's been at several newspapers, including Scranton, Pennsylvania, the home of "The Office." Before that, he spent five years in the Coast Guard. There, on boring midnight watches on the bridge, he would try to keep himself awake and/or keep from throwing up by singing "Thunder Road" to himself while balancing a sextant on his nose. (He'd also look for drowning people, of course.) He also likes condiments, except when throwing up.
