Hall's View of Day One
Sure it was nice to have a little rest and give his shoulder a few more days to continue healing. But Max Hall wanted to be back on the field throwing the ball around. The BYU sophomore quarterback got his wish last night as the Cougars began their official bowl preparation practices.
"It felt good. I think after two weeks we were anxious to get out here," he said. "We were done running and conditioning a little bit for two weeks. I think it went good. We were sharp and kind of shaking off the rust and getting used to each other and to their defense and seeing what their defense does against us. I think it was a good first day, and we just have to keep getting better."
After BYU's victory over San Diego State, Hall said he would rather not see a bowl game rematch and play a new opponent. But he has slowly come around to the idea.
"Once it was announced I said, 'OK. Let's go play them again, let's improve and let's go win this time," he said. "So we just got to keep doing what we are doing and not really focus on, 'Oh we have to get back at these guys.' But just focus on playing our game and winning."

The news from the other side:
- Brian Dohn of the L.A. Daily News is reporting that because of the injury to Patrick Cowan, Ben Olson will get the start for UCLA at quarterback against BYU. Nothing has been confirmed by coaches yet, and the Bruins resume their bowl practices today after taking a break for finals. Olson started the first meeting against the Cougars and finished 13 of 28 for 126 yards, one interception and no touchdowns.
- The Daily News also is reporting that UCLA will interview former UCLA Rose Bowl-winning quarterback Rick Neuheisel and Philadelphia Eagles assistant John Harbaugh.
Neuheisel is a former head coach at the University of Colorado and the University of Washington. He is now the offensive coordinator with the Baltimore Ravens. Harbaugh is the brother of Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh.
The article said UCLA athletic director Dan Guerrero is expected to fly to Kansas City this weekend to interview current Tennessee Titans and former BYU offensive coordinator Norm Chow. The Titans play at the Chiefs.
