Mendenhall Speaks - No Statement Required
BYU head football coach Bronco Mendenhall made a statement live and in person after practice today saying why he felt the need to release a statement responding the rumor he has been contacted about the UCLA job.
"Just to try and eliminate any distraction," he said. "I thought if I had a chance to be proactive than it might benefit our team where they don't have to deal with any of the gossip or the rumors and those things, so it seemed better to address it than let it escalate."
Mendenhall said he is very happy at BYU and if there were ever any basis to the rumors he will let everyone know.
When asked if he was flattered or annoyed by his name supposedly being connected to jobs, he said I am certainly flattered, but then it goes right to annoyance in terms of its just one more thing to manage in terms of getting a team ready to play."

Quick hits:
- Harvey Unga was limited in practice today, and Mendenhall said it was because his ankle is still sore. But he said Unga knows the plays and nothing is going to change hugely that requires him to get tons of reps.
- Mendenhall said he is hoping the tradeoff for a lighter bowl buildup practice schedule is fresh bodies, eager minds and good health.
