BYU Football Coaching Clinic
Any high school football coaches out there wanting to learn the tricks of the trade from the BYU staff?

The Cougars will hold their annual Spring Football Clinic on March 21 in the Student Athlete Building.

Speakers for this year's clinic include John Barnes, Chris Jones and Steve Gervais.

Barnes is the head coach at Los Alamitos High School in Los Alamitos, Calif. and the winningest football coach in Orange County history. His program has captured four California Interscholastic Federation titles.

Jones coaches at Vista del Lago High in Folsom, Calif. He won three CIF titles in seven years as the head coach at Oak Ridge High before moving to Vista del Lago.

Gervais is the head coach at Skyline High School in Sammamish, Wash., where has won six state championship titles.

Clinic participants will have the chance to participate in position workshops and breakout sessions with members of the BYU coaching staff. They will also get a tour the Student Athlete Building, the Indoor Practice Facility and attend BYU's afternoon practice.

Registration is $30, and includes lunch, dinner and clinic materials. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. (MST) in Room 220 in the Student Athlete Building on March 21. For information, or to register, contact Patrick Hickman in the BYU football office at (801) 422-2917 or by e-mail at patrick_hickman@byu.edu.

Common traits:

What else do BYU and Memphis have in common aside from lengthy homecourt winning streaks? Poor free-throw shooting.

The Cougars are shooting 65.2 percent from the free-throw line while Memphis checks in at 58.3 percent. BYU's mark ranks second-to-last in the Mountain West while Memphis' is last in Conference USA.
