One More Shot At Utah For Burgess
Sam Burgess spent 30 minutes after practice Monday hoisting up extra shots from every spot on the floor.
Barring a meeting in the Mountain West Conference tournament, tonight's showdown with Utah at the Marriott Center will be the final rivalry game for the BYU senior guard. Burgess has played against the Utes four times, and made his first start when the teams met in January. He has a 2-2 record.
"It is a big deal and I will be ready to play and hopefully contribute enough to the team that it really helps us win," Burgess said. "Utah games have always been fun no matter if I played just a little bit or the whole game and we will be excited to play this one."
BYU is riding an eight-game winning streak and trying to establish a program record for consecutive home victories by winning their 45th straight at the Marriott Center.
"Regardless of the winning streak, I think they will be fired up and ready to play," Burgess said. "I think they have enough motivation from what happened at their place. I know they are playing well."
Which is one reason Burgess remained on the court for some extra practice.
"I haven't shot a great percentage the last few games," he said. "And as a shooting guard, it never hurts to get more shots."

Postseason standard:
The Cougars are 20-5.
Since the NCAA Tournament started in 1939, BYU has had 20 seasons with 20 regular-season wins and earned a postseason invitation all 20 times. The Cougars have received 17 NCAA bids and three NIT berths. Since the NCAA Tournament became the predominant tournament, BYU has had 15 seasons of 20 wins and was invited to play in the NCAA Tournament 14 of those 15 years. The only year the Cougars weren't invited was in 2005-06 when they finished 20-8 and settled for an NIT bid.

Women take it on the chin again:
Different location, same result.
The BYU women's baskeball team was blown out again by Utah last night. The No. 18 Utes used a strong second-half surge to beat the Cougars 82-45 at the Huntsman Center. BYU (12-11, 6-5) entered the half trailing by just five, but Utah (22-3, 11-0) stepped on the gas pedal with a 20-6 run and pulled away for its 17th straight win.
BYU lost by 31 points in the first meeting at the Marriott Center.
