Pre-Game From The Marriott
He isn't a microphone grabber himself, but BYU head coach Dave Rose said he admires the job Utah coach Jim Boylen has done in his first year at the helm.
"They are playing really well together, not only on the offensive end but on the defensive end and I think they have got a lot of confidence in each other and their ability to make plays," Rose said. "I think defensively they are a very consistent team. There are not many possessions during a game when you get free looks. They are pretty engaged about making sure they are contesting you on every possession."

Short shots:
- Boylen took a few seconds to talk with BYU freshman Chris Collinsworth as the Cougars were going through their pre-game warmups. Boylen gave Collinsworth a pat on the back.
- BYU is 8-1 when appearing on The Mtn. and 7-0 on Wednesday nights this season.
- The special events staff has shed their regular redish-maroon jackets for bright blue.
- Shawn Bradley is attendance for the second straight game. There is mostly blue and white in the arena, but there is a big clump of red high up in section M. The chants of "BYU" have already started.
- Despite the women's basketball loss yesterday, BYU still leads the Deseret First Duel series 23-19. Tonight's game is worth five points.
