Of the 21 recruits, five were listed as linebackers for their primary position, four as defensive backs, three as wide receivers and offensive linemen, two as running backs and defensive linemen and one tight end and one kicker.
Some of the recruits are hybrids who can switch positions or sides of the ball if necessary. Although not listed as "athletes" like some recruiting services have coined, they are something similar. BYU has been seeking more of the multidimensional players who can be plugged into various spots during recruiting.
Although pleased with the class, BYU recruiting coordinator Paul Tidwell said complete satisfaction is hard to come by.
"We could always use more defensive linemen and offensive linemen. That is always a position you could just keeping coming in and bring them in," he said. "You sign Michael Yeck (OL) and he chooses to go on a mission early. The offensive line and defensive line - just because of the numbers, especially the offensive line with five positions there - I think you need to continue to fill those holes. Other than that, I think we are in really good shape."

Baseball fallout?
Tidwell was asked yesterday if the situation involving the BYU baseball team - junior Kent Walton apparently being kicked out of school and dismissed from the team for failing to attend church enough - had impacted football recruiting.
Tidwell said he hadn't heard of any specific incidents. He said it possibly could in the future, but didn't wish to comment anymore about it.

Quick hits:
- In my story for the paper today, I listed BYU's rankings by Rivals.com and Scout.com. Yesterday being a fluid situation I realized these rankings were likely to be downgraded once Uona Keveinga switched his commitment to USC. But the rankings hadn't changed by my deadline, and the paper wasn't going to hold for an Internet update. So here is where BYU stands in the final tally: No. 83 by Rivals and No. 60 by Scout. But as we learned, BYU head coach Bronco Mendenhall simply just doesn't care.
- TCU men's basketball coach Neil Dougherty was in a joking mood last night when I asked him about his impressions of BYU after having played the Cougars instead of just watching them on film. "They are not very good," Dougherty said with a smile. If they would learn how to pass, catch and shoot it and get some better coaching and all that stuff, they would be a pretty good team."
