Spanning the BYU sports spectrum:
- The BYU baseball team will make a stop through Cedar City on its way to Las Vegas to play Southern Utah today at 2 p.m. BYU (12-15, 3-3 Mountain West Conference) will be trying to snap a five-game losing streak. The Cougars begin a three-game series with UNLV on Thursday at 7 (PDT). Freshman Tyler Westensee (1-2, 6.20) gets the nod to start at SUU against former Cougar lefty Alec Reichle (0-4, 8.28).
- The BYU softball pitching staff kept Utah Valley off the scoreboard in a 7-0 victory over the T-Birds yesterday. Christie Zinanti started the game and threw two innings, Paige Affleck picked up the victory and Christina Trice pitched three innings for the save. Jessica Purcell went 2-for-3 with a pair of home runs and six RBIs. The teams weren't scheduled to play yesterday, but decided to get a few swings in to make up for weather-related cancelations earlier in the season and potential cancelations in the future.
