Mendenhall Tunes Out TV
DirecTV might want to avoid asking BYU football coach Bronco Mendenhall to be a pitchman for its new deal with The Mtn.

Like almost everybody affiliated with the Mountain West Conference athletic programs, Mendenhall became exasperated with the process a long time ago.

"I was asked so many times over the first couple of years, I really don't even know the details quite frankly," Mendenhall said. "It came to the point where my level of frustration with the package was just being a distraction, so I haven't really acknowledged it and I think the best thing we can do is put a team out there that demands coverage. That is maybe the best way I can help."

Every BYU game should be televised this season - although the specifics for the Washington and Utah State games are still being worked out. The Washington game will likely be shown on Fox Sports.

Around the Mountain:

So what's going on with the other spring practices around the conference?

At Colorado State and San Diego State, there is a competition for the starting quarterback job.

CSU has a five-man race to replace Caleb Hanie and new coach Steve Fairchild said he doesn't want to rush to judgment. Running backs Kyle Bell and Gartrell Johnson could be used in a two-back scheme next season, according to Fairchild.

San Diego State's void at QB is much larger with Kevin O'Connell having accounted for 77 percent of the Aztecs' total offense last season. The three quarterbacks in contention are: redshirt freshman Ryan Lindley, junior Drew Westling and sophomore Kelsey Sokoloski.

Bronco seemed to know a couple of years ago that the Mtn. was only on Comcast since he was shilling for them as the only place to see the Cougars.
