Setters Like BYU's Chances
Like a point guard in basketball, a setter in volleyball is expected to have the pulse of the entire team.
Sophomore setter Yamil Perez senses something positive that could boost BYU's postseason aspirations as the second-seeded Cougars prepare to play No. 3 Cal State Northridge tonight in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation semifinals at Long Beach State's Walter Pyramid.
"Ivan is getting his edge back," Perez said referring to senior outside hitter Ivan Perez. "He had some bad games in the middle of the season, and now the last game he played really well. He is our guy and if he keeps doing what he did last game he probably can get us pretty far."
Ivan Perez recorded his ninth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 12 digs in BYU's quarterfinal victory over UC Irvine.
Fellow BYU setter Brian Congelliere believes the Cougars are primed for victory in the Golden State.
"I think we are looking really strong," he said. "Guys are jelling really well and guys are working really hard. I think that is the recipe for success."
