The rugby team is making its fourth straight appearance in the USA Rugby Collegiate Championships. The Cougars (13-3) play Colorado today at 6 p.m. (MT) at Stanford University while defending champion Cal meets fellow Bay Area program St. Mary's in the earlier semifinal at 4 p.m. (MT).
The Final Four is clearly playing to form with Cal ranked No. 1 in the nation, BYU No. 2 and Colorado No. 3.
BYU's only loss to a collegiate team this season came to Colorado 28-22 in February in Boulder, and BYU is hoping to turn the tables on a neutral field.
"There isn't much that's needed to be said to the guys to get them motivated for this one," BYU head coach David Smyth said.
Should BYU advance, the Cougars are likely to play 23-time champion Cal in the final on Saturday. Cal beat BYU in last year's final. The Golden Bears are attempting to win their fifth straight title, and haven't lost to a domestic collegiate team in three years. Since 1980, only one U.S. team has beaten the Bears - Air Force in the 2003 championship.

Spanning the BYU sports spectrum:
- The BYU baseball team let a lead slip away in a 9-7 loss to New Mexico last night at Larry H. Miller Field. The Cougars (18-27, 6-10) were ahead for five innings before the Lobos (28-19, 12-4) staged the rally. BYU third baseman Steve Parker was 3 for 4 from the plate with one walk and one RBI. The teams meet again tonight at 7 p.m.
- The BYU softball team hopes to keep its slim Mountain West Conference lead alive when it travels to Salt Lake today to play rival Utah at 4 p.m. BYU (37-16, 10-4) split two games with Utah (26-21, 9-5) earlier this season at home. Aside from the MWC implications, BYU is leading the Deseret Duel 29.5 to 27. Each game against Utah is worth 1.5 points.
- The BYU women's track team is hosting the BYU Invitational today.
