Volleyball Signs Three Recruits
The BYU women's volleyball team has signed three players from the 2008 class to national letters of intent.

Setter Markelle Malone, rightside Malia Marquardt and middle blocker Nicole Warner will be joining BYU's successful program next season.

Malone is a four-year all-conference honoree out of Durango High School in Las Vegas, Nev. Marquardt is "a highly decorated rightside" from Vista High School in Vista, Calif., and Warner is a first-team all-state selection from Rigby High School in Rigby, Idaho.

Malone will help fill the void at setter after the graduation of Amy Schlauder while Warner joins All-American Rachel Dyer and Ashton Hansen on BYU's frontline. Marquardt could compete for time in the rightside position vacated by senior Erica Lott.

"We are extremely pleased with the quality of athletes that will be joining us on the court this fall," said new BYU head coach Shay Goulding. "Without a doubt, this class of outstanding young ladies will make significant contributions right away. Their commitment will help up build on the wonderful traditions already established with BYU women's volleyball and achieve new goals and even higher standards of performance."

Baseball hosts New Mexico:

BYU begins a three-game series against Mountain West Conference-leading New Mexico tonight at 7 at Larry H. Miller Field. Although it retained its perch atop the standing, New Mexico (27-19, 11-4) enters with a five-game losing streak to non-conference opponents. BYU (18-26, 6-9) is in danger of losing more home games than any season since 2001.

BYU coach Vance Law has shaken the rotation, moving southpaw Jake Wortham (3-3, 6.72) back to the game one starter. Sophomore Blake Torgerson (4-3, 7.04) moves up to the game two starter for Friday at 7 p.m., and BYU's starting pitcher for Saturday’s game at 1 p.m., is yet to be determined. New Mexico counters with Bobby LaFromboise (4-2, 3.66) today, Jacob Norton (5-3, 6.36) on Friday and Stephen Smith (4-2, 4.55) on Saturday.

In case you can't make it out to the ballpark, every game will be televised live on BYUTV with Jay Monsen, Gary Sheide, Jarom Jordan and Kevin Schaefer calling the action. The games will also be broadcast live by Brent Norton over KSRR Radio (1400 AM).
