Some BYU commits start their senior seasons early
High school football starts sooner in Utah, or as soon, as any state in the country. Teams played their openers Friday night, and several BYU commits were on display.
Probably the best performance was turned in by Adam Timo, the running back from St. George's Snow Canyon High who has been moved to quarterback for his senior season.
Timo ran for 198 yards on 27 carries and scored two touchdowns, but his team lost 28-26 to East after leading 26-7 in the first half.
Hunter High lineman Ryan Mulitalo committed to BYU last month, but the Wolverines lost to 27-0 to Davis and sophomore quarterback Gavin Fowler, younger brother of BYU safety Kellen Fowler. Destined to be a Cougar, Gavin Fowler ran for a TD and threw for another.
Northridge running back Peni Maka'afi had some decent runs in his team's 41-37 win over Jordan, while his teammate, Chris Washington shined. Washington made a game-changing interception, and also caught the game-winning touchdown pass with 7.4 seconds remaining.
Washington, of course, is the three-star (scout.com) recruit who has offers from BYU, Utah and Utah State.
Timpview has two players who have committed to BYU -- lineman Tui Crichton and safety Craig Bills -- but squeaked by Pleasant Grove 10-6 and easily could have lost.
Bingham has a BYU commit, tight end Remington Peck, but fell 24-17 to Skyline in a mild upset. Peck did not play in the game.

BYU's women's soccer team got off to a good start, beating Cal Poly 2-1 on Friday night in San Luis Obispo, Calif. The Cougars outscored the Mustangs 2-0 in the second half.
Katie Larkin and Auna Janis scored BYU's goals. The Cougars are now 11-2-1 all-time in season openers.

Timpview has atleast one other recruit- Bronson Kaufusi.
Mountain View's Anthony Heimuli also had a good game before leaving the game with cramps. He ran for 184 yards on just 14 carries.
It also appears Timo is back at RB. They tried using him at QB to start the game, but he kept fumbling snaps, so they moved him back to RB and he was still effective. I'm guessing he'll stay at RB for the rest of the season.
