You can read about that in tomorrow's Tribune (nothing shocking, really; Holmoe and coach Bronco Mendenhall say they want to play Utah State every year from here on out).
Anyway, I used the occassion to ask Holmoe why we haven't heard more about the proposed series against Tulane. Officials in New Orleans have said the Cougars will play Tulane in a season-opener next year at the Super Dome, but BYU officials have been mum on the deal.
Holmoe said "an agreement in principle" exists between the two schools, but that the hangup has to do with the television situation for the game in New Orleans. It's Tulane's game, obviously, and that school is in the middle of negotiating a TV deal.
BYU's 2010 nonconference schedule is already filled up with Nevada, Washington, Utah State and Florida State, so don't expect to see the Green Wave in Provo that year.
BYU could add Tulane to its 2011 nonconference schedule, but that would give the Cougars seven home games, because it already has Utah State and Arizona State scheduled to visit Provo that year, along with the usual four MWC teams.
Holmoe said he is "not opposed to a seven-game home schedule," but that Tulane's return visit to Provo "might be way down the line."
BYU's 2012 and 2013 nonconference schedules just got a little tighter because the Cougars agreed to a home-and-home series with Hawaii.
The 2012 nonconference schedule is now filled (Hawaii, Washington, Utah State, Boise State), so the soonest the Cougs could host Tulane, if they want to avoid the seven home games deal, would be 2013.

Check out the Recruiting Trail blog for more on the recruitment of Hawaii linebacker Manti Te'o, and how one Southern California newspaper blogger believes UCLA is closer to landing the BYU-coveted Te'o than USC is.
Also, Bill Conley of Scouts, Inc., answers questions every Wednesday about recruiting. Here's what he said about Te'o:
Dan (San Diego): Bill, any news on Manti Te'o? In recent comments he is strongly suggesting that his choice will be based on how well his religion (LDS) fits into a college community. Does that mean BYU is the front-runner, or is USC still tops? Thanks.
SportsNation Bill Conley: Religion is very important and BYU will hang tough to the end. USC and BYU have the best shots but UCLA may be a sleeper.

Jay,
Why the inference that a 7 game home schedule is a bad thing? What are the negatives? Also, in years that BYU plays at hawaii, it is allowed a 13th game so the schedule won't preclude another game.
7 home games sounds good to me, and probably to BYU. Another sellout, another likely win. Sounds good to me.
