BYU women win NCAA soccer first-round game
An energized home crowd at South Field in Provo watched the BYU women's soccer team defeate Virginia Tech 2-0 on Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
Kassidy Christensen scored a goal five minutes before the first half ended on a breakaway for BYU.
Katie Larkin scored BYU's second goal off an assist from Alyssa Vander Veur.
BYU had 13 shots, while Va. Tech had seven.
Next up for the Cougars is USC, the defending NCAA champion. The Trojans beat Boston University 2-0 in Thursday's first game.
The BYU-USC game is Saturday at noon at South Field.
