* The No. 5-ranked BYU men's volleyball team downed No. 10 UCLA 3-1 on Saturday night in the Smith Fieldhouse. The win avenged a 3-1 loss to the Bruins on Friday night.
Junior setter Yamil Perez had a match-high 57 assists while sophomore outside hitter Kevin Sagers led the Cougars with 16 kills. Two other Cougars, junior opposite Mat Taylor and junior outside hitter Andrew Stewart, had double-digit kills as well.
UCLA won the first set 31-29. The Cougars won the second set 34-32 and the third set 30-28 before taking the fourth set, 30-25.
BYU's record improves to 14-9 (10-5, MPSF), while UCLA falls to 10-13 (6-10, MPSF).
Next up for the Cougars is a two-match showdown with No. 1 UC Irvine on Thursday and Friday at the Smith Fieldhouse. Both matches will be televised by BYU-TV.
* The Cougar baseball team lost 9-5 at New Mexico on Saturday, and dropped the three-game series 2-1 to the nationally ranked Lobos.
BYU had a 5-3 lead in the game, but New Mexico scored five runs on five hits in the seventh inning to take the lead.
BYU is now 15-10 and 5-4 in league play. The Cougars takes a breather from MWC action with a three-game series starting Thursday at Western Carolina University.
* The BYU softball team swept a doubleheader against North Dakota on Saturday, winning 7-0 and 10-4.
BYU's Christie Zinanti pitched a no-hitter in the first game. BYU improved to 23-14 overall with the wins.
