So which team does BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall think should be picked to win it all?
"I think that it is safe to say that historically, BYU, TCU and Utah are the three you could say have the best chance to do that," Mendenhall said. "In what order, I don't know how you pick that."
The coach was just getting warmed up on the topic. He went on to say that if it were up to him, there wouldn't be a preseason poll. Heck, he says there shouldn't even be preseason national polls.
"I don't think it is possible to pick, nor do I think, philosophically, that there ought to be any preseason polls, period," he said. "I don't think there ought to be a preseason conference poll, nor do I think there should be a preseason national poll.
"I think after Game 6, then possibly there is enough information to make a determination. The rest of it is just speculation and things to talk about that don't matter much until we actually know something."
For the record, Mendenhall pretty much said the same thing last year when the Cougars were picked to win the league and started the year in the national rankings (16th in AP, 17th in USA Today).

Bronco's right. Pre-season polls are just another reason why college football is fundamentally flawed.
