BYU just wrapped up its fourth practice Wednesday, and by the end of it, the injury list was nearing double-digits. Also, several players missed practice because it is the last day of summer school and they were off taking final exams.
The biggest injury news is that linebacker Terrance Hooks is expected to be out two weeks with the hamstring he injured on Monday.
Defensive back Brandon Bradley also had an MRI performed on his knee, but it came back negative and although Bradley did not participate in situational drills Wednesday, "it is just a matter of it being a little sore," coach Bronco Mendenhall said.
Offensive lineman Houston Reynolds was out with a quad strain and is getting a second opinion on the injury.
Safety Blake Morgan also tweaked his hamstring and was out again Wednesday.
Linebacker Grant Nelson (AC separation), linebacker Dan Van Sweden (hip flexor strain) and defensive back Robbie Buckner (hamstring, "nothing bad," Mendenhall said) also missed all or part of practice with an assortment of ailments.
Nelson hurt his shoulder early in practice, so Jordan Pendleton got all the reps with the ones at strongside linebacker. Pendleton also went down toward the end of practice, but Mendenhall was not made aware of that so he's presumably OK.
He said he was OK as he jogged off the practice field.
Backup defensive tackle Jordan Richardson was sick and another nose tackle, Tevita Hola, was taking tests. So was Richard Wilson, the freshman from Spanish Fork.

Washington high school quarterback Jake Heaps was at practice Wednesday, along with Kyle Van Noy, the young man who signed last February but is sitting out until January for disciplinary reasons.
Heaps and Van Noy mingled with the players and coaches after practice and looked relaxed and comfortable. Heaps' parents were also here.

As far as a practice report goes, it should be noted that their were a lot of position changes today that won't really have a bearing on the depth chart. Coaches just wanted to get some backups work with first-stringers, etc., to see how they would do playing alongside a veteran.
For instance, freshman safety Craig Bills played with the ones, although he is still a third-stringer at best. And starter Scott Johnson ran with the three. Overall, the defense had a pretty good day, stopping the offense several times after getting riddled by Max Hall on Tuesday.
Hall still finished 21 for 27 for 208 yards and two touchdowns, throwing scoring strikes to McKay Jacobson and Dennis Pitta. Jacobson beat juco transfer Corby Eason easily to catch his TD.
Speaking of Bills, he made a nice play to swat away a ball intended for Pitta.
Another juco transfer, Lee Aguirre, got the reps with the ones at boundary corner with Bradley watching from the sidelines.

Mendenhall said Wednesday that he hasn't seen his kids for two and a half weeks because they've been in Montana.
"Hope camp gets over soon," he said.
More from Day IV later.
