Hoops practice report: Haws is back, but Hartsock sprains ankle
It’s that time of year when the usual post-practice reports from football are interrupted by a basketball practice report.
The Cougar hoopsters went at it for about 100 minutes tonight, and were almost at full strength.
Forward Noah Hartsock suffered a sprain ankle midway through practice. Coach Dave Rose said the extent of the injury probably won’t be known until Tuesday.
Other than that, he said the Cougars are pretty healthy as they look forward to Thursday’s exhibition against Trinity Western, a Christian liberal arts school from British Columbia, Canada.
“We got a bunch of guys that are a little bit banged up, but that’s what happens when you are going after each other every day as hard as we are going,” Rose said. “So I do know....they will be glad to play against someone else.”
Asked if the team has developed any suprising traits or characteristics after something like 15 practices, Rose said it would be the penchant for hard work.
“The core group of guys, as far as Chris and Jimmer and Jackson and JT, are kind of staying together, and we are rotating different groups with them,” Rose said. “So I think the main personality trait of this group is they play really, really hard because they know the depth that we have.
“Hopefully we will be able to play a lot of guys, and at a high rate of speed -- really intense.”
About the only other news is that freshman Tyler Haws is back practicing at full speed, after missing about a week with a sore left knee due to an IT band strain.
Haws said he is trying to catch up, but feels like he will be ready to get some playing time when the season begins in earnest on Nov. 13 against Bradley.
