Last day to make a charitable contribution
Today is the deadline for taxpayers who itemize deductions to make charitable contributions for the 2008 tax year, the Internal Revenue Service says. Donations charged to a credit card by today are deductible for 2008 even though the bill is paid in 2009. You can also pay with a check, too, as long as you submit it to the charity, or mail it, today. Clothing and household items may be donated as well, but they must be in good used condition or better. Keep good records whatever you give. Questions? See Publication 526, available on the IRS web site at IRS.gov.
