Home buyer tax credit extended

November 5th, 2009

Congress has voted to extend the $8,000 tax credit for first-time home buyers and those who haven't been property owners for the last three years. And lawmakers added in a new $6,500 credit for buyers who have lived in their home for at least five years. President Obama is expected to sign it into law Friday morning. Go here to read more.

Price war on movies?

November 5th, 2009

Wal-Mart has participated in a price war on books with Amazon.com, and now it's apparently moving into movies. The global retailer has put their top-selling 10 DVD preorders on sale on their web site for only $10 shipped.  Go here for more information.  Amazon.com has many of these titles on sale for the same price.

Old Navy sale/coupons

November 5th, 2009

It's that time of the week again, when that crazy web site  OldNavyWeekly.com is going to update with new coupons. You never know when the site will update. Once it does, you can try to find a coupon on your own, or go to ThriftyNorthwestMom.com's web site for a list of all the secret locations. The best ones go within minutes, but there's always some decent ones left that can be paired with sale and clearance items for a great deal. Good luck! By the way, Old Navy is having a $1 scarf sale this Saturday. Read more here. Thanks MomsNeedToKnow!

Christmas light promotion

November 5th, 2009

Take your old Christmas lights to Home Depot today through Nov. 15 and get a $3 coupon for each set (up to a limit of 5 sets) that you can use on any energy efficient LED Christmas lights. Home Depot LED lights will be $5.97 during this promotion, or only $2.97 each after the trade-in coupon, according to one of my favorite frugal bloggers Erin at ThatWentWell.net. LED lights are great money-savers. Read this article from Consumer Reports for more information.

High value coupons

November 5th, 2009

I found a great website the other day that has links to all sorts of printable grocery coupons, such as this one, which is worth $2 off a bottle of Welch's Sparkling Juice or Juice Cocktail (IE orFirefox) (Remember to hit the 'back' button and print two.) These always go on sale around the holidays, and when they do, this coupon would probably cover much of the cost of a bottle. By the way, the web site is PrintableCouponsandDeals.com. Check it out!

Free admission days at the zoo

November 5th, 2009

Hogle Zoo sent me an e-mail with their free admission days for the next four months as part of their wintertime "Wild Wednesdays" promotion. This is really a great deal, given the fact that regular admission is $9 for adults, $7 for seniors and $7 for children ages 3 to 12. (Children under the age of 3 are free.) Get in free to this fun attraction on Nov. 25, Dec. 30, Jan. 27 and Feb. 24.
