May 26th, 2009

Summer Reading Programs

May 26th, 2009
null Your neighborhood library can be a great resource during the summer months. Many offer a greater array of activities for the children and programs that provide an incentive to keep reading all summer long. And many people don't realize that libraries have far more than books: They have movies, books on tape and a host of other stuff. And don't forget the Barnes & Noble summer reading program. Kids can earn a free book from the bookseller after reading eight on their own. Read about that program here. The program officially kicks off today.

One-day pass to Sam's Club

May 23rd, 2009

 null

Sam's Club is offering a free printable one-day pass on its web site. The pass is available in the small business section of the site, but the pass itself doesn't say the offer is limited only to business owners. This appears to be the most desirable type of pass — it doesn't mention the usual 10 percent surcharge of purchases. Click on "Member for the Day" to get the pass. (Note that it must be used by May 25.)

Also, Sam's Club is promoting a $15 "summer membership." Check out this offer here.

Good luck finding a one-day pass to Costco. I don't ever see those!

A freebie that could save your life

May 23rd, 2009

Travel-services agency AAA has a great free offer for those who will be drinking this holiday weekend. From 6 p.m. Sunday, May 24, through 6 a.m. Monday, May 25, AAA's free "Tipsy Tow" service will take anyone who has been drinking home for free and they'll tow your car home along with you, too. (This offer is available to anyone as a public service, not just AAA members.) The trick is to party fairly close to home: The free tow service is available up to five miles. Party hosts, bartenders and restaurant managers are encouraged to keep the toll-free AAA number handy for those who don't know about the service. All you have to do is call 800-222-4357 (AAA-HELP) Tell the operator that you need a "tipsy tow." Keep in mind this is a one-way ride for a driver and a vehicle to the driver's home. If there are additional passengers, they can be taken to the driver's home, too, as long as there is sufficient room for them to ride safely in the tow truck.
