Another core sample
It has been usefully pointed out in a comment apended to my previous post -- "Loyal Core of Support for Bush" -- that The Washington Post back at the end of January ran a similar article about Utah's uber-loyalty to the president, this one focused on the northern Utah town of Randolph.
It starts out telling you more about the reporter, David Finkel, and his favorite foods than it does about either the president or Randolph. And, in terms of political events, just January was a long time ago.
But the piece does lay out an interesting sketch of what must be, to many Blue State Easterners, a very strange culture indeed.

Any time you have a culture that gives high marks and its votes to a pathological liar and war criminal like Bush, it is indeed a "very strange culture" -- not just to Blue State Easterners but to anyone else who follows what's going on in the world.
