First Utah schools to dispense swine flu shots
Even as schools in Tennessee and New York begin mass-innoculations of children, Utah's largest school districts are on waiting lists for the H1N1 vaccine.
Two private Catholic schools, however, have managed to secure doses from Community
Nursing Services. On Tuesday, though J.E. Cosgriff Memorial in Salt Lake City dispensed swine flu shots to faculty and students. And today, Juan Diego High School in Draper dispensed 450 according to State Health Department guidelines, said the school's spokeswoman Molly Dumas.
Juan Diego's school nurse was able to secure the serum through Community Nursing Services (CNS) where she works part-time, said Dumas.
CNS has no ties to the Catholic Church nor the church's school system.
"We're not working as a system to get the doses," said Catholic Schools Superintendent Sister Catherine Kamphaus.
