Stream Access Rally 2010
February 5th, 2010
Rally at the Capitol
February 4th, 2010
I'm dropping a reminder about the rally for the Stream Access Bill being held Friday at 11:30 a.m. on the south steps of the Capitol building. There's a lot going on with the issue of stream access. Two other bills have emerged, as expected, and neither, also as expected, involved any input from the angling community. There are informative and frequent updates from the Capitol being posted on Utah on the Fly and Utah Water Guardians web pages. In case you missed it, here's a column I wrote on the bill anglers should stand behind. There was a very similar op-ed piece from John Weis and a rebuttle to Weis from the Farm Bureau. Check them out and then show up at the Capitol.
Big rainbow trout and big smile from Strawberry
February 2nd, 2010
Twelve-year-old Caden Mittelstaedt of Bountiful was fishing through the ice at Strawberry with his father, Steve, when this bad boy came calling in mid-January. Steve reports that it took Caden five minutes to get the fish to the hole and another few tense minutes to get a hand down the hole to pull the beast out. The fish was 25 inches long. Steve said he told Caden it might be a good one to keep, but that his son insited that they let it go. The fish was bigger than any Caden has ever caught and larger than any Steve said he has seen caught at Strawberry. The colors on the fish led some to believe that it was a large cutthroat. I sent the shots to Alan Ward with the DWR's Strawberry Reservoir Project and he confirmed that it is likely a rainbow.
