Booze in Bountiful
Drinkers from North Salt Lake to Farmington can rejoice today now that the Division of Alcoholic Beverage Control approved a new, 10,000-square-foot  liquor store in Bountiful.

The current store, the only one that serves South Davis County, is so tiny that selection is limited and parking is often difficult to find Friday and Saturday right before the 7 p.m. close.

Earlier this year, I heard that a group of conservative residents were fighting the new store. So I guess I shouldn't complain that liquor officials decided to discreetly tuck the building in the back of the new development at 400 North and 500 West away from street view.

The back-alley location likely appeased that small, but vocal group of teetotalers --- the same ones who didn't want Bountiful's popular El Matador Mexican Restaurant to get a beer license.

No matter. Next summer, if you look close, you will probably see a dark-haired food writer slinking behind those Bountiful buildings to get a six-pack of beer or a bottle of wine for a family barbecue.

Hopefully, by then, the good people of south Davis County will understand that beer, wine and spirits are not illegal substances for those of us 21 and older.
