Wine Wednesdays

Last week, I met friends at Fleming's Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar for Wine Wednesdays. For $25, you get three appetizers and wine pairings and your money goes to charity.

I'm still thinking about the 2005 Rolling Sauvignon Blanc Semillon blend. This Australian white was crisp and summery and a worthy match for a bacon wrapped scallop with creamy asparagus sauce. Even better, the 2006 vintage is available in the Utah state liquor store for $9.41 plus tax.

Next course was the 2006 Nelms Road, Cabernet Sauvignon, from Washington State's Columbia Valley. Smooth with black fruit flavors, the wine ($20.30 plus tax) came with a seared lamb chop drizzled with a port sauce and delicious roasted grapes.

We ended with a 2006 Late Harvest White, a sweet, unfiltered dessert wine from the Selby Winery in California. It was my least favorite wine, but the warm peach cobbler made up for my disappointment.
