Thanks and good bye.
Diageo, the world's largest multinational beer, wine and spirits firm, placed a half-page advertisement in the Utah Food Industry Association's annual conference brochure. It pictured bottles of spirits and a large headline saying "Thank You."

It should also have said "Good Bye."

Under a new state law, all flavored malt beverages, such as Smirnoff Ice, Jack Daniel's Original Hard Cola and Bacardi Silver, must be removed from grocery store shelves by Oct. 1. After that date, they will be sold only in state-controlled liquor outlets.
But new, costly labeling regulations means the malt beverages many never show up on the shelves at the state-run stores.

Last week, a spokeswoman for Diageo said the company is reconsidering stocking its flavored malt beverages in Utah "because it may not be worth it from a business standpoint." (Read the entire story here.)

Smirnoff Ice, Smirnoff Raw Tea and Captain Morgan Parrot Bay are three of the malt beverages distributed by Diageo.
