Utah wins 6 medals, no gold, at "Beer Olympics."
Utah Brew Pubs earned two silver and four bronze medals, but no golds, at the 2008 Great American Beer Festival held last weekend in Denver, Colorado.

During the competition, considered the "Olympics" for American brewers, silver medals were awarded to the Cherny Bock from Bohemian Brewery and the Belgian Wit, from Red Rock Brewing.

Bronze medals include: All the Way Alt, from Desert Edge Brewery; Fifth Element, made by Squatters Pub Brewery; Squatters Wit, from the Utah Brewers Cooperative; and Wasatch Hefewizen, from Wasatch Brew Pub.

What a difference a year makes.

In 2007, Utah brew pubs brought home eight medals, including two golds. Red Rock was named the "Large Brewpub of the Year" and its head brewer, Kevin Templin, was named "Brewer of the Year."
