Wine sale secrets
Attention wine lovers, I'll let you in on a Utah drinking secret.

The state wine stores occasionally have sales on the first Monday of the month to clear the shelves of slow-selling wines or to make way for new vintages. But because the state is prohibited from advertising these sales, the only way to hear about them is from friends, relatives and or by reading my blog.

The next sale is Nov. 3 at the Metro Wine, 255 S. 300 East, in Salt Lake City. It starts at 11 a.m. Now, even though wine drinkers are supposed to be refined, they have been known to line up several hours early. And once the doors open, they are not afraid to push and shove their miniature shopping carts to get to the bargains they want.

Some sales are better than others, but a Utah wine broker said this one should include some good value items, especially from Spain. Many bottles will be marked half-price.

The sale might be a good way to stock up for Thanksgiving or Christmas. And it also is a must for those who want to celebrate, or mourn, the end of the election season. Remember, on Election day, all state liquor stores will be closed.

I had no idea. I am psyched for some mini-cart derby, and to stock up.
