Baxter's American will close Nov. 8
The last day of operation at Baxter's American Restaurant will be Nov. 8, said general manager Kevin Packer. Owners notified employees of the closure on Wednesday.

The restaurant will have full dinner service on Nov. 8 until 10:30 p.m.

Several factors brought about the demise of the 10-month-old restaurant at 400 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City.

First are some unresolved "owner issues" with the former partners at The Depot. The problems date back more than a year when the space was the Asian-fusion "Butterfly" restaurant.

The location, inside the Union Pacific Building on the backside of the Gateway Mall, also is a problem. It is out of view from most shoppers and when the restaurant asked to put up signs, mall officials refused.

A dismal economy that has fewer people eating out, just added to the wounds.

It's a shame, since the restaurant served perfectly cooked steaks, addicting onion rings and a unique Sunday brunch menu that included seven different kinds of eggs Benedict.

"The business is definitely for sale," said Packer, who added that there is a remote possibility The Depot owners could take over the space and reopen it.

We'll be watching.
