Good-bye bakeries.
A distraught reader called to let me know that Pierre Country Bakery and Cafe, at 3239 E. 3300 South, has closed.

The telephone number is disconnected, the website doesn't work and emails to owner Marsha Smith keep getting sent back.

It's the second bakery with long-time Utah roots, to go out of business. Scandia Kaffe House, 1693 S. 900 East, has been closed for awhile.

NO! This wonderful bakery IS open and, THANK HEAVEN, under previous owner Marsha Smith! Due to health issues, Marsha sold Pierre's to a couple that assurred her they were professionals and knew the bakery business. From all accounts I have heard, the "new owners" ran this quality and cleanliness down and then destroyed what they could not sell and closed the doors.
One can certainly appreciate the commitment to community and excellence Marsha Smith has shown by taking a HUGE financial hit and re-opened this historic bakery and cafe once again. What can we do? Show our gratitude by putting Pierre's Country Bakery and Cafe on our "most visited" list!
Thank you Marsha, and your abley talented, hard working and friendly staff for bringing this scrumptuous and delectible delights back into our city!
