New SLC Wine Store opens Nov. 14
I'm feeling guilty.

For many years, the downtown wine store has been one of my favorite places to wander and explore. I've spent many hours weaving through the aisles, looking at exotic labels and reading the tasting notes, happily overwhelmed by the dozens of different wine choices from around the world.

When newcomers and naysayers complained about the state's "unusual" liquor laws, I'd point them to the tiny store at 255 S. 300 East, saying there are few places in the country with so many selections under one roof.

Despite all my nostalgic feelings for this old place, I can't wait for tomorrow (Nov. 14). At 10 a.m. the doors of a new, glitzier wine store opens at 280 W. Harris Ave., (1602 South). With more than 12,000 square feet, the modern glass building will allow for more wine selections.

Division of Alcohol Beverage Control has even installed new computer kiosks that allow customers to help determine the perfect wine to serve with dinner. The store is open Monday -Saturday, 10 a.m to 10 p.m. and there is plenty of parking space in the back.

I'm sure it will be a favorite stop. But I plan to go back to the old store, every once in awhile, even if its just to remember how far Utah has come.

Can't wait myself, sounds like it's going to be fantastic. And finally a wine store open beyond 7PM, no more last minute rushing!

We drove by this place last weekend and had to double-back to ogle through the windows. Can't wait to go inside!

Stopped by myself and was very impressed. A much bigger store, with a far more diverse selection.

They were doing some seriously brisk business too!
