Flavor forecast
McCormick, the spice and seasoning folks, released its annual "Flavor Forecast" today. It's a list of 10 flavor pairings that their experts think will show up on American menus in 2009. Some sound intriguing, others do not.

You be the judge:
1. Toasted sesame and root beer: the iconic soda is rediscovered and paired with bold nuttiness.
2. Cayenne and tart cherry: heat plus sweet-sour pack a multi-layered punch.
3. Tarragon and beetroot: a sensory feast that is unpredictable and unrestrained.
4. Peppercorn melange and sake: Japan's notable rice wine finds a French partner.
5. Chinese five spice and artisan-cured pork: an innovative taste sensation.
6. Dill and avocado oil: healthy goodness meets pure and natural.
7. Rosemary and fruit preserves: a progressive interpretation of sweet and savory.
8. Garam masala and pepitas: an intoxicating global marriage.
9. Mint and quinoa: nutritious and exhilarating.
10. Smoked paprika and agave nectar: this union of Spanish and Mexican ingredients has a smoky sweetness.
