Grilling going strong
Despite the economy, the sales of backyard barbecues remained strong.
In 2008, a total of 16.68 million grills and smokers were sold in the U.S., according to statistics from the Hearth, Patio and Barbecue Association.

Gas grills were the most popular -- more than 9.6 million were shipped during the year. Charcoal grills were second with more than 6.7 million. Electric grill shipments were just over 292,000.
