Utahn among a New Crop of Farmers

Pete Rasmussen may be young - just 26 - but he is one of a "new crop" of farmers dedicated to saving America's land, seeds and farming traditions, according to this article in YES! magazine.

Rasmussen, of Sandhill Farms in Eden, Utah, is one of 13 young farmers featured in the latest issue of the non-profit, sustainable living publication.

Rasmussen grows more than two dozen different varieties of gourmet garlic on his two acre farm, just east of Ogden near Pineview Reservoir.

In July, things come to a "head" (so to speak) when Rasmussen holds his "Garlactica" garlic festival at the Farm, which also operates a Community Supported Agriculture program.

In the off-season, Rasmussen works as the garden and nutrition teacher at an elementary school in Oakland, CA.
