"You are a pompous ass"
"Did you forget about 9/11 already? Don't you get that this part of
the world needs to be put in line for the safety future of ourselves
and children?"
"Her cause is my cause, and it should be yours too."
"Isn't the First Amendment wonderful. Stating one's opinion is
protected speech."
"I have listened to Dr. Laura for 12 years, which accumulates over
3000 hours"
"She also has raised half a million $$$$ for their cause. How much
have your helped out?"
"You managed to succeed to vilify Dr. Laura to feminist mongrels
everywhere."
If you're interested, the good doctor apparently will be on Fox News'
The O'Reilly Factor this evening to clarify the comments she made
about military spouses. I've declined an invitation to step into that
particular hornet's nest, though. I just don't think I can scream loud enough
to be heard on O'Reilly's show.

Mr. LaPlante why are you hiding under your desk? It seems that Bill O'Reilly has that effect on so many when he knows the truth will come out. I have nothing against you I just hope that you print a sincere retraction since what you know you printed is misquoted. After attending an event in March that supports the families of our troops I can not believe that Dr. Laura would ever say anything in your column. After taking a day to think about what you wrote, what Dr. Laura said on her radio show and her blog and then your reply today I have come to the conclusion that we need to reflect and respect more and stop all the negative bashing of other’s trying to do good. Thank you. Steve
Mr. LaPlante, thanks for being a reporter. Honesty is something lacking from most of the rabid right; Fox News, sexual harasser Bill "loofah" O'Reilly and the rest of them.
Dr. Laura needs to heed her own advice: STOP WHINING.
Right Wingers play the victim oh so well.
Mathew,
You are still a creep!
Because you are a left-wing liberal media-type, you purposely want to annihilate anything righteous and/or moral by slanting it to fit your ugly views and the views of your equally liberal, godless audience. The most despicable part of your character or the lack thereof, is that, not only do you do this because you are morally corrupt, but you do this to gain notoriety and promote controversy.
Dr. Laura does a lot of good for country. Don't be jealous; focus on the positive. Oh yeah, people like you refuse to do that.
Passionately,
Lisa
La Plante, Why could you not just "report. Why distort the facts, when people agree to be interviewed by you they trus you will be impartial and just write about what they said. Instead you distort the spoken word to bring attention to yourself. This woman does many positive things and taken in context her comments about the responsibilities of a military wife are true. I dont agree with everything you write yespecially about military manners because frankly you cant possibly know what you are talking about, and it shows often in your stories. Please dont become drawn in by all the sensationalistic media folks out there who try to get on the top of the page no matter what the cost.
You just don't think you can scream loud enough to be heard on O'Reilly's show, huh? I see - you write untruths in the privacy of your office. Then when you are called out - you make up some lame excuse so as not to be confronted with the truth. If you believe what you've written - there shouldn't be a problem - right? The fact is - you know you twisted Dr. Laura's words for your own agenda. I AM SICK AND TIRED OF MEDIA TYPES LIKE YOURSELF and they are all too numerous!! There are a great many who feel the way I do.
I am a PROUD AMERICAN who thank mothers like Dr. Laura and the sacrifice their sons and daughters are making so that we can remain the land of the free. So people as despicable as you can also have the liberty to print the trash you spew.
Our troops are fighting an unbelievable enemy and you don't have the courage to go on O'Reilly's show. You, Mr. Laplante, are a coward!
Here's a little something I thought I would put on your blog..
WHAT SENATOR JOHN GLENN SAID:
There were 39 combat related killings in Iraq in January.
In the fair city of Detroit there were 35 murders in the
month of January. That's just one American city,
about as deadly as the entire war-torn country of
Iraq.
When some claim that President Bush shouldn't
have started this war, state the following:!
a. FDR led us into World War II.
b. Germany never attacked us ; Japan did.
From 1941-1945, 450,000 lives were lost ...
an average of 112,500 per year.
c. Truman finished that war and started one in Korea.
North Korea never attacked us .
From 1950-1953, 55,000 lives were lost ...
an average of 18,334 per year.
d John F. Kennedy started the Vietnam conflict in 1962.
Vietnam never attacked us
e. Johnson turned Vietnam into a quagmire. From 1965-1975, 58,000 lives were lost ..
an average of 5,800 per year.
f. Clinton went to war in Bosnia without UN or French consent.
Bosnia never attacked us.
Clinton was offered Osama bin Laden's head on a platter three
times by Sudan and did nothing. Osama has attacked us on multiple occasions.
g. In the years since terrorists attacked us, President Bush
has liberated two countries, crushed the Taliban, crippled
al-Qaida, put nuclear inspectors in Libya, Iran, and North
Korea without firing a shot, and captured a terrorist who
slaughtered 300,000 of his own people.
The Democrats are complaining
about how long the war is taking.
But it took less time to take Iraq than it took Janet Reno to take the Branch Davidian compound.
That was a 51-day operation.
We've been looking for evidence for chemical weapons in Iraq for less time than it took Hillary Clinton to find the Rose Law Firm billing records.
It took less time for the 3rd Infantry Division and the Marines to destroy the Medina Republican Guard than it took Ted Kennedy to call the police after his
Oldsmobile sank at Chappaquiddick
It took less time to take Iraq than it took to count the votes in Florida!!!!
Our Commander-In-Chief is doing a
GREAT JOB!
The biased media hopes we are too ignorant to realize the facts.
But Wait there's more!
JOHN GLENN (ON THE SENATE FLOOR)
Mon, 26 Jan 2004 11:13
Some people still don't understand why military personnel do what they do for a living. This exchange between Senators John Glenn and Senator Howard Metzenbaum
is worth reading. Not only is it a pretty impressive impromptu speech, but it's also a good example of one man's explanation of why men and women in the armed
services do what they do for a living
This IS a typical, though sad, example of what some who have never served think of the military
Senator Metzenbaum (speaking to Senator Glenn): "How can you run for Senate when you've never held a real job?"
Senator Glenn (D-Ohio): "I served 23 years in the United States Marine Corps. I served through two wars. I flew 149 missions. My plane was hit by an! ti-aircraft fire on 12 different occasions. I was in the space prog ram. It wasn't my checkbook, Howard; it was my life on the line. It was
not a nine-to-five job, where I took time off to take the
daily cash receipts to the bank."
"I ask you to go with me ... as I went the other day...to a veteran's hospital and look those men ..with their mangled bodies in the eye, and tell THEM they didn't hold a job!
You go with me to the Space rogram at NASA and go, as I have gone, to the widows and Orphans of Ed White, Gus Grissom and Roger Chaffee...and you look those kids in the eye and tell them that their DADS didn't hold a job.
You go with me on Memorial Day and you stand in Arlington National Cemetery, where I have more friends
buried than I'd like to remember, and you watch those waving flags
You stand there, and you think about this nation, and you tell ME that those people didn't have a job? What about you?"
For those who don't remember
During WW.II, Howard Metzenbaum was an attorney representing the Communist Party in the USA.
Now he's a Senator!
Mr. LaPlante,
I have never heard of you, but I have heard of Bill O'Reilly. I wll not use this comment to pump him up, which I love to do since I believe him to be a very smart man. I saw his segment with Dr. Laura this evening which upset me greatly. I am a Marine who has spent time in Iraq...and I believe my Mother would share her thoughts..as would many other ladies just like her. It was wrong of you to use her comments as a stepping stone to create a media frenzy for yourself. It is un American and disrespetful towards us, the U.S.military. If she were my Mother, and I heard this when I was deployed, it would distract and hurt me greatly. Do you really want to be the man that does that? I certainly hope not. I am just a humble Marine Lcpl with a Bachlors Degree, but I still recognize the indecency of your comment and how it can effect military families, famous figures or not, in a negative way...don't be that man.
You are a typical coward who hides behind his own pen. I am a Latino Democrat and you disgraced yourself by taking comments out of context for your own political slants. My son is the in the military and for you to write lies about a woman who's son is also serving is a disgrace. You are not a reporter, but a propagandist for your own political views and a disgrace to journalism.

I don't understand how "Dr." Laura has the audacity to tell women (or men) how to act in their relationships, military or no. If people want a real doctor's advice, they should seek it themselves. They should never have it thrust upon them by a woman with nothing better to do than butt into other people's lives.
Frankly, she shouldn't say things like this, in context or no.
I can't understand the silly onslaught of comments that precede this one (jon's being the exception).
Oh, good lord. A few things are ridiculous about this situation:
1) People think Dr. Laura is sweet as a mother cat. She's not. She tells things like they are. It's her schtick. Same thing with Ann Coulter. Both are successful because people log on, flip on their radios or open their newspapers to see...OMG! what happens next?! People call Dr. Laura because they want someone to be straight with them and tell them things like "quit whining" and "quit shacking up and maybe your boyfriend will respect you."
2) Clearly, she's concerned about her credibility (cough, sarcasm, cough, cough) if she's going to clear her good name on the conservative pandering soapbox that is Fox News' "O'Reilly Factor." "Fair and balanced," my ass.
3) Most people who get their idiot comments aired in a public forum have dug their own graves. If Dr. Laura didn't want people to misinterpret what she said, she shouldn't have said it.
P.S. I heard Jesus was a white middle class Republican.
Nice job on your story.
Gee, Lisa H., looks like you are in need of a bit of a history lesson...let me know if you are interested....
Verrrrrry interesting. Let's examine this for a moment.
LaPlante quotes Dr. Laura making an exceedingly Dr. Laura-type comment. Dr. Laura realizes in the light of the next day's paper that her bluntness could be interpreted several ways and pulls out the "context" card, a favorite when folks know they were quoted accurately but said something they regret. Bill O'Reilly, seeing a chance to play to his base, has the good doctor on and (wheeee!!!) gets the bonus of LaPlante making a smart-aleck comment when he declines to go on his show. Now Bill can come to Dr. Laura's rescue AND trash the mainstream media scum! What a way to end the show!!!
But wait. ... Dr. Laura calls the reporter a gentleman. She is conspicuously almost nice in her comments toward LaPlante. O'Reilly interrupts her to emphasize what a bad guy LaPlante is but "gentleman," she says. What's going on?!?
What's going on, it seems likely, is that LaPlante is about to publish (on Saturday) another Dr. Laura story, this one about Dr. Laura's military son's MySpace page, containing images of violence and comments so disturbing that the page is taken down and the military is investigating. The son of Dr. Laura? Posting cartoons of rape? Treating killing and the worst sides of humanity at war as a joke? (Get the details in the Trib archives.)
And to add insult to injury, O'Reilly calls LaPlante's two tours reporting from the war zone ... Oh, wait. O'Reilly didn't mention that, or LaPlante's many stories about the troops or the regular blog about military affairs. He must have had other information that let him conclude that LaPlante's goal was to make Dr. Laura look bad and to hurt the troops. The troops who LaPlante will be interviewing again soon, it would seem likely. Which would be pretty dumb of him, since they have guns and he so obviously wants to hurt them. ... I'm confused now.
Now, who's worried about context here? LaPlante, O'Reilly or Dr. Laura?
We report. You decide.
