Laura's army
There are two armies you should never anger: One is fighting in Iraq. The other listens to Dr. Laura.

Radio host Laura Schlessinger, in response to an article about her visit to Utah last week, posted on her website today that I "chose a comment, one that I've made before many times on the air, to make the primary focus of his article -- and, he took it out of the entire context of my remarks."

Within minutes, the e-mails were flying into my inbox...

"You should be ashamed"

"How pathetic of you."

"You need the wax cleaned out of your ears and/or your journalism diploma rescinded."

"That was NOT right, and you know it!"

"You are disgusting, but then again, you are in the media."

You get the idea. The quote in question was the good doctor's answer to my question about what advice she most often gives military spouses who call into her show.

Her answer? "Stop whining."

"He could come back without arms, legs or eyeballs, and you're bitching?" Schlessinger said before taking the stage at the Fort Douglas base theater to host her daily program on ethics, morals and values. "You're not dodging bullets, so I don't want to hear any whining -- that's my message to them."

Schlessinger now says the quote was taken out of context. She is, of course, entitled to have her say.

In the meantime, I'll take any opportunity available to bring attention to this blog and to The Tribune's continuing coverage of the plights of Utah's military members and their families.

So thanks for the link, Laura. I hope your readers take the time to cruise through past blog entries and use The Tribune's archive feature to read our past military stories.

So you have a response to Dr. Laura's blog post which accuses you of taking her comments out of context and you refer to your past posts on the blog?

You are going to be someplace someday.

It is typical of Laura Shlessinger to say and do things and go into denial. She isn't accountable and blames others. She also has many $AHM's and robots that fire off their scripted orders. Did you read about Leslie Bennetts book "The Feminine Mistake." when it came out? The machine went after her with misinformaton. It is worth googling and checking out the response.

We've heard her on radio. She has changed from her most brutal days. At times, she's still horrible. Sad that so many still take the abuse.

Her MFCC has been inactive like 20 years. She could show documentation, but her robots cling to that as credible. Many still think she's a legit MD.

You said "She said (women)'I'm going to leave that alone," She did say more on the subject, April 1, 2007 in her Santa Barbara column "Feminism gets a shot in the headscarf". She ended with "Ms. Turney, as well as the media which coddles the female with child, have curdled respect for women in the military." To be fair you need to read the entire column.

"Schlessinger advocated two years of obligatory military training for all Americans..." She wrote in the Santa Barbara News-Press on April 19, 2007 "College massacre no time to cower". She wrote more in her blog. Most people do see that as a draft and that she's selling a perpetual war. They need a draft, with a new name.

In Santa Barbara she's the Walter Winchell of a McCarthy-like child porn smear at the Santa Barbara News-Press. If you haven't kept up, Wikipedia Santa Barbara News-Press Controversy is a start. It is more insight on Shlessinger. Also the blog discussions are interesting. www.independent.com went through a change and their links don't work from Wiki. You can find alot at their site.

Your article was right on. Terrific! The machine attack is what they do, not because so many agree. It's more about organization. Some are paid.

I see you're still in denial about how she helps military families with her contributions to Operation Family Fund. And you're loving all of this... this whole blog is just quoting your trashy article over and over and then asking people to go read other articles. What a response. You obviously have no constructive points to make.

Most people do not listen to what Dr. Laura says for longer than a moment or two. If you listen to her for a while, you can understand her common sense and her compassion - especially for the Military.
To believe what others write is another way of not listening to HER.
And to write an article like yours proves that you did not listen to her, or her program.

At 6:07 PM, Blogger lolita said...

We've listened to her. She's a neighbor. You're the ones who don't know her. I'm not even getting into the hear say.

Raini and Marcy, you're not even reading the posts, it's name calling to say "trashy" without backing that up, but you can have your opinion. You know her MFCC has been inactive for decades, yet her followers use that to try to make her look credible, that's a lie when you know better. It's a fact she fits the dictionary definition of a quack. A dictionary definition to a specific behavior is not the same as name calling. Mr. La Plante wrote of her MFCC as if it is valid, he was reporting but believed the misinformation she keeps out there. The MFCC is inactive, like Paris Hilton can't drive without a current driver's license. Yes, she once had one, can't drive now, going to jail. Quack's misrepresent these things and pretend medical status they don't have.

I'm glad if anyone gets charity from her. But up close the charity games are not just as promoted. It's too much to go into here, try a little research. Too many of her followers skip facts and believe in mindless PR chatter. She needs to do alot more to help addicted, homeless soldiers and the opium problem in Afghanistan. And the many more military problems she ignores.

You can read her own words about women in the military, if you would. And don't be afraid to say you want a draft for your children, if that's what you believe. It's her lies and secrets that make her immoral. And she's teaching others her bad morals.

So I am a robot since I listen to the Dr Laura show daily according to lolita. What have you done lately for our Military? I do not know you and can not verify if you are a reader or some left wing anti military supporter just as you can not verify who I am. I did have the opportunity to attend an event in March for Operation Family Fund that Dr. Laura supports and the moving story about a warrior that lost his leg in combat and is not bitter. What he was bitter was how the media and politicians treat our military as if they were the enemy and how that negative mood is transferred to citizens of the United State and obviously get back to our troops in harms way making their job harder and delaying their eventual return. What Mr. LaPlante wrote is obviously misquoted and it sad he even printed it and we are having to go back and forth with vial remarks. Everyday there is something negative said about our government and the military and I am sure this Memorial Day for some it will be just another day off but for many including myself it will be a day to remember those who gave of their lives for someone they did not know and a day our Military should be honored imagine if others would reflect and respect how better this world would be.

Reflect and Respect.

Steve, I meant no disrespect to you. I don't know you. Yes, I've known of rabid robots. I don't listen to Laura alot now. Once I had to listen, alot, she has changed. I read her column. To be frank, she's not a good writer. It's along story why I read her at all. Sometimes it's hard and we take turns reading it to each other. She is a carpetbagger in Santa Barbara, she is isolated from the community. She does have supporters here, I think. She has the News-Press, have you kept up with that? They are ruining good peoples lives. I can't talk about it. The people who don't know the side of Laura in the community she picked to live, don't know her well.

I liked the March for Operation Family Fund photos. I'm sure she's alot of fun. She does work hard. Seeing her like that, we had a nice conversation about positive traits. We're all totally in support of funds for the families and soldiers. That doesn't mean we like her schtick. If I try to expalin what we're doing it's like school, we do volunteer research. I read both sides of Laura. She gave a yatch, $2.2 million, to a yatching school. All well and good. She gets great prestige to be among other wealthy donars and a smart tax move. She didn't need the yatch but was emotionally attached, it was a tear jerker. She must be worth well over $100-200million by now? Radio personalities earn like $10-50million a year, more? I was raised not to be a show about giving, just quiet and consistent. It's not about the giver looking good, that's something else. OFF was money raised, she gave time and worked, all nice. She combined with her birthday, got great PR, others had a good time and military families benefit. No problem. I have a problem when people are deceptive, like she needs to clear up the whole misuse of a Dr. title for starters. The people who ignore her lack of credibility and say but she spent a night raising money make her look worse. It's wrong to use the vulnerable to excuse her weaknesses.

I was brought into the world by an Army doctor. I've experienced the best of the military. Other things are still painful. I can't imagine a loss of a leg. The soldier you spoke of is an inspiration. I'm familiar with little physical damage and slow, mental deterioration. There are soldiers who return from war, they look great, it can be years before it gets bad.

In her blog Laura said she was taken out of context, not misquoted. Mr. LaPlante is credible, read more of his work. We've seen Laura go through denial, "tears", blame someone else and they're "mean", too many times now. She is NOT credible. Today I saw another board she was on, it had her endorsement and said she is a psychologist. If I did that I'd be a disgrace to my family. I was raised with values that say that's fraud, I do not understand when people know and tolerate those behaviors. I know some people believe the fantasies. I find it vile when she exploits or takes advantage of the vulnerable.

No one likes the situation with the government. Everyone supports the troops. More military are speaking up about Iraq. I last heard, September is when decisions will be made. Memorial Day is always mixed emotions for me. A close friend lost their father in a war, if I get sad for myself I remember they never knew their father.

Best regards, L
Sorry if his rushed, I'll have more time later.

Laura Schlessinger program is three hours of over-the-top comedy from a troupe of moronic sheep and their sanctimonious ringleader. What's troubling, however, is her role as "victim." Time and time and time and time again, after she's given an interview and a few days later she actually sees her own words in black and white print, she has one of her patented meltdowns. She tolerates zero criticism whatsoever, and that's why unless the reporter was writing a complete puff piece and blowing sunshine up her butt, she's going to play victim when she does her little rant about it on the show. Her "poor-me" whinefest at the beginning of Monday's show was no different than half a dozen others she's spat out over the last two years. Schlessinger is a hypocrite on many levels, but I have to say: this one, where she bitches and whines and plays the victim - something she refuses to allow her callers to do - always gives me a good chuckle.

Isn't it great that we live in a country that we are free to bash someone whose child in out there protecting this very freedom?!?!? I wonder if blogger's think about that when they are typing words that hurt these very people? It's sad, really, that our country thinks this is the American way. I'm so proud of our soldiers and their families. It must be tough to have a loved one on the front lines, but it's even tougher to BE on the front lines. That is what we HAVE to keep in mind, no matter what we think about the war... That is the compassionate thing to do. It was great for Dr. Laura to go out there and show support for military moms, but we also have to still make our fears and problems second to those who are living with fear and problems 24/7, our soldiers.

My personal favorite part of Dr. Laura's blog post was the part when she gets to go have a cup of coffee "and a relaxing sail" when she feels stressed.

Clearly, she has her finger on the pulse of the Everyman in this nation.

We all need a relaxing sail and a cup of coffee every once in a while. I'm glad to see that you agree!
Hopefully you are able to get your cup of coffee and sail equivalent today so you aren't stressed by the comments on this blog!

"...the good doctor apparently will be on Fox News'
The O'Reilly Factor this evening to clarify the comments she made
about military spouses. I've declined an invitation to step into that
particular hornet's nest, though. I just don't think I can scream loud enough
to be heard on O'Reilly's show."

"In the meantime, I'll take any opportunity available to bring attention to this blog and to The Tribune's continuing coverage of the plights of Utah's military members and their families."

So, Laplante, which is it? You'll take any opportunity, or you won't take any opportunity by going on O'Reilly's show? You will do nothing but hide behind your newspaper and blog.

First off to Lolita I should take my own advise of reflect and respect I re read my posting today and I think I was a little rude to you so I am sorry. To anyone who questions how Dr. Laura can use Dr. next to her name, let me try to explain. This is a common confusion to many about her and others. To better understand her education anyone can go to her website but she holds a "BS, Biological Sciences, SUNY Stonybrook, Long Island, NY

MS, M Phil, Ph.D. (Physiology), Columbia University (College of Physicians and Surgeons), NY

Post-Doctoral Certification in Marriage, Family and Child Counseling, Human Relations Center, University of Southern California, Los Angeles

Licensed Marriage, Family and Child Counselor (MFCC), California, formerly in private practice for 12 years

Past member of the Biological Sciences faculty of the University of Southern California (five years) and the graduate Psychology faculty of Pepperdine University (eight years)

UCLA and UC Irvine Extension course instructor

She is not in private practice anymore, she has not practiced in over 20 years since she gave it up to give birth and raise her son( currently in the military in Iraq) She worked night on a local radio station in LA before her daytime show. Just as others like her Dr. Joy Brownn, Dr. Ruth Westheimer and even Dr. Phil, they are not medical doctors. Just because they are not in practice does not mean their doctorate is not valid. While she may not be licenced to practice she can still use her Dr. next to her name. Take care everyone hopefully this whole Dr Laura misquote will die down soon and America can start to once again worry more about Paris Hilton, the late Anna Nichole and who will win American Idol after all these are more important right?

I will ocassionally listen to Dr Laura.

I don't really "like" Dr Laura, but I respect her.

She isn't a "feelings" type of person and seems more analytical, but her son is serving in Iraq.

She supports the U.S. Military.

Her point is a good one. Don't tell your loved one, serving in a War, about your problems back at home they can do nothing about!!!

That's her point. Many women do this with their husbands and it's not fair to them. Men, especially Military Men, are problem solvers. Men want to "fix" it and if their wives or girlfriends are bitching about a problem back home it messes with their heads.

That's what Dr Laura is talking about and she's right.

LaPlante,
I've got to make this quick, I heard O'Reilly. You were wise to stay away and keep focus on the families.

I'm repeating this...if you get the time, you should check out this column by Schlessinger: Santa Barbara News-Press on April 1, 2007 "Feminism gets a shot in the headscarf".

Schlessinger quotes:
1.. "It is my opinion that she betrayed her comrades and her country and should be subject to a court martial."

She ended with
2... "Ms. Turney, as well as the media which coddles the female with child, have curdled respect for women in the military."
To be fair you need to read the entire column.

She does not like all military families and should not be sneaky about this. If I hadn't heard O'Reilly I wouldn't have known you were part of the Tammy Bruce conspiracy out to harm Laura ;-) ... They are some team. She was nice, just said "out of context". She's just out of touch, that's how she talks to the choir. I think she sounds like a horribe shrew but others love it. Worse I don't like the deceit. Your piece was accurate. O'Reilly is .......

Steve, thank you! I'll read tomorrow when I can focus better. You're a jewel. I really appreciate you.

I agree with Dr. Laura that military wives (or husbands, for that matter) should bend over backward to be supportive of their spouse fighting in Iraq. What never ceases to amaze me is her lack of accountability for what she says or does. She appears to be very concerned with spinning the news. She made this remark. Whether it became the centerpiece of the story is immaterial.

Joan Didion in "Slouching Towards Bethlehem," talks about having "the courage of your convictions." To stand behind who you are and what you say, essentially. As a syndicated columnist myself, and one who frequently angers feminists and people very attached to status quo ideas I challenge in my column, I frequently anger readers. But, unless there's some error in my thinking (in which case I'll apologize and correct it) or some printing error that gets me wrong, I stand behind what I say and write -- and take the consequences when I'm sometimes fired for it. That's the only ethical thing to do.

Wow still won't apologize!!! Amazing the quote should have been stop whining to your spouse in the war NOT stop whining. You are very dishonest!!! No one will read your stuff!! Military families which I am apart of do not appreciate the media that is profiting from our love ones suffering.
