The other side of the story
In Sunday morning's Tribune, I wrote a story about a movie being made that will chronicle former Jazz center Mark Eaton's journey from young auto mechanic to the NBA.
The woman behind the project also has a unique story. Park City-based screenwriter/producer/director Stacy Dymalski is a Cal-Berkley graduate who found her initial calling - aerospace engineering - "so boring I wanted to slit my wrists."
She turned to stand-up comedy, which began "an enormously more interesting" career in writing and movie-making.
"I kind of slipped in through the backdoor," she said.
Along with her husband, who is an avid skier, Dymalski lived in southern California. But the couple often vacationed in Utah. They even purchased a second home in Park City and eventually moved there.
"After the umpteenth riot, fire and flood, we decided to cash out of California," said Dymalski, who is working on the screenplay for the movie and hopes filming will start next fall.
To monitor the progress of the project or ask a question about it, Dymalski invites you to periodically check her blog at parkcityjournal.com/crazyparkiteproductions.
