A good team catches a shorthanded team in the final days of an extended road trip, with predictable results.
The Jazz punished Charlotte on Monday night at EnergySolutions Arena in a ragged, foul-filled game that must have made the fans in the front row wonder if there isn't a better way to spend $900.
The Jazz didn't break away for good until nine minutes to go, but the Bobcats never looked capable of coming back in this game - their fifth on a six-game trip that ends Wednesday in Phoenix.
A word of warning.
If Charlotte doesn't play any more enthusiastically on defense than it did in Utah, the Suns might score 150 on them.
I thought the Jazz might be in a little trouble after shooting 61 percent in the first quarter, but managed only a 32-25 lead.
As it turned out, Utah didn't pay for some early sloppiness because the Bobcats played as poorly on defense as any visitor this season.
Gerald Wallace was the only bright spot for Charlotte. He had 33 points and again looked like one of the best expansion draft picks by an NBA team since the new Chicago Bulls grabbed Sloan in 1966.
Despite this effort, I like the Bobcats.
With Emeka Okafor, Raymond Felton, Adam Morrison and Wallace, they have a solid nucleus.
Their future is promising.
In this game, they were simply victimized by a red-hot opponent and the NBA schedule.
