Ronnie Price vs. Dee Brown
Many angry readers (and obvious Dee Brown fans) are wondering why the Jazz have decided to sign Ronnie Price as the team's No. 3 point guard behind Deron Williams and free agent Jason Hart.

I think there is a simple explanation for the move that means Brown won't be returning.

While the extremely popular Brown is a hard worker who improved his game considerably since he first showed up in Utah for the 2006 Rocky Mountain Revue, I'm certain the Jazz believe Price is a better player with greater potential.

It's that simple.

Dee Brown did a good job in Utah and will earn a handsome living over the next 10 years playing professional basketball, either in the NBA or overseas. But Price a better shooter, a better finisher and a better defender because he is bigger and stronger.

I honestly don't think the Jazz ever had any intention of bringing Brown back next season, even though they tendered him a qualifying offer. I think that was an insurance policy, in case they could not find anyone better they liked better to play.

When Sacramento allowed Price to walk away as a free agent, however, Utah quickly moved in, signed him and eliminated the Jazz's need for Brown.

Is it the right decision?

Look at this way: Utah entered last season with a point guard lineup of Williams, Derek Fisher and Brown. This year, Utah's point guard lineup will be Williams, Hart and Price.

In a game of three-on-three, I'd take Williams-Hart-Price over Williams-Fisher-Brown every time.

No disrespect to Dee or his many fans, but the Jazz have clearly upgrade their point guard position, in my opinion.

I agree with your, Dee Brown is a good player and i'm sure most of us have been fans since his championship run in 05, but lets be serious. He's too small, sometimes can't control his dribble, shoots when he shoudn't and doesn't shoot when he should and when it comes down to it he probably won't be a starting point guard ever, though he claims he can be. I could see him as a good 2nd string PG in a few years, but the jazz don't have the money to invest in him, and Price has that 2 years experiance...and with coach Sloan thats what truely matters. My questoin is what the plan is for the shooting guard still? I doubt ever seeing Gordan starting, and Hart is ok, but could they survive with the main rotation being Hart and Gordon, with Almond every now and then? And what about Brewer? do you see him trying to find his role in the 3 guard spot and play behind AK and Harpring?

I honestly don't see how Ronnie Price is an upgrade over Dee Brown. Dee was more than a servicable #3 PG that would have come cheaper than Price. So why tick off Deron Williams and hurt team chemistry by dumping his best friend for a player who might not be as good as Dee in the long run. Dee had a year of this system under his belt and was loved by the fans. Why get rid of that for an unproven player who may or may not be as productive as Dee? Stupid move Jazz.

"He's too small, sometimes can't control his dribble, shoots when he shoudn't and doesn't shoot when he should and when it comes down to it he probably won't be a starting point guard ever, though he claims he can be." We don't NEED a starting point guard out of either Price or Brown. We need a legitimate pass-first PG. Price is NOT a point guard; the Kings let him go because he couldn't run the offense.

"I could see him as a good 2nd string PG in a few years, but the jazz don't have the money to invest in him, and Price has that 2 years experiance...and with coach Sloan thats what truely matters." Ronnie Price has two years experience with sub 40% shooting and a dismal 1.5 assist/turnover margin Such experience for a backup guard doesn't help ANY team.

"My questoin is what the plan is for the shooting guard still? The Jazz have four SGs now: Giri, Almond, Price, and Hart (don't think that Jerry won't play Hart 10 MPG at the 2). Brewer can play SG but is probably better as SF where he's closer to the basket. AK should play some SG alongside Harp. And if CJ comes back, the Jazz arguably have SEVEN players to play shooting guard. For the first time in the Jazz history, Utah has an SG glut. Unless a trade happens for a truly superior PG/combo guard or backup big man, Utah has shot themselves in the foot by taking up a valuable roster spot with Price. The team already has one Ronnie that they don't play enough.

Dee is too small, and can't shoot.. He may have tons of energy, but most of the time he will get dominated. Price handed Williams his hat when he played us. He is quick, and he can shoot. I would think Hart could go, and Brown could be a 3rd stringer. Price is much better than Hart, and the Jazz could slide Williams over to the 2 on occasion. The Jazz need to get rid of Collins, Gordon, Brewer, and CJ. Pick up Barnes at the 2, and anyone would play center better than Okur. Let Okur back up Boozer, so we don't have the slowest two big men in the league on the floor together.
