DeShawn Stevenson in the news
The Washington Wizards couldn't have been happy to see the news about DeShawn Stevenson out of Orlando, Fla., today. After all, they did sign the former Jazz guard to a four-year, $15 million contract barely a month ago.

Phil Jackson had a saying that nothing good can happen if you're out past 1 a.m. That's about the latest anyone can stay out who has to go to work the next morning. According to this story, Stevenson was out until 4 a.m. on a Sunday.

Here's a copy of the Orlando Sentinel story on the incident. The Jazz should consider themselves fortunate this is somebody else's headache:

A shooting early today at a former Orlando Magic player's home near Windermere left one man with gunshot wounds to his leg and several luxury vehicles riddled with bullets.

Washington Wizards guard and former Magic player, DeShawn Stevenson, and his friends told deputies that Curtis Ruff, 31, opened fire at his home after the group left a popular Orlando night club.

Stevenson and three of his friends, Ronnie Millsap, Brandon Hunter and Jennifer Calderon, spent the evening partying at Destiny Club, off Universal Boulevard and Sand Lake Road in Orlando.

Before leaving the night club at 4 a.m., the foursome invited some women they met that evening back to Stevenson's house on Lake Whitney Drive, Orange County Sheriff's Office records show.

Millsap told deputies that as their guests' cars pulled into the residence, a white Cadillac Escalade followed through the front gates of the Windermere home. Once inside the property, Ruff, exited his vehicle and started arguing with one of the women.

Ruff yelled "you don't know me" and returned to his vehicle. He then stepped out of his car with a firearm and started firing several rounds at the house and the other parked cars, including a BMW and a Lexus SUV, according to a report. The women who were invited to the home took off when the shooting began.

Millsap, Hunter and Calderon bolted inside the house to avoid being shot. Stevenson was asleep inside his home during the shooting, according to police records.

Ruff shattered the cars' windows and plugged the vehicles full of bullets before leaving the neighborhood.

When deputies arrived at Stevenson's $1.4-plus million home, they found bullet casings near the vehicles and a bullet on the driveway of the house across the street. Investigators also found fresh blood on one of the cars at Stevenson's home.

About half an hour after the shooting, Ruff showed up at Health Central Hospital in Winter Garden with bullet wounds on his legs. Stevenson's friends told deputies that they never fired back at Ruff.

All the victims declined to prosecute.

That's misleading - if Stevenson was out with the others until 4am, then how did he manage to go inside and fall asleep before the shooting started?

All other accounts I've read about the shooting at DeShawn's home report that DeSwhawn was not out at the club with his friends but was at home sleeping. His friends came to his house after they left the club. He was not at the club with them.

Does anyone else think it's strange that a man gets shot in the leg and doesn't want to prosecute? How's this for a scenario: DeShawn was involved, maybe even pulled the trigger, and then paid the guy off to keep quiet. Deshawn stays out of jail and keeps cashing his NBA paychecks, and the guy gets paid handsomely to not snitch (Carmelo would approve). It's win-win!

It appears some people can't sniff out a lie... The story changes 3 times to the police, if Stevenson appears to be firing weapons he will lose millions of dollars in future salery because teams don't want to pay big bucks to guys with 'character problems'. The guy shooting DIRECTLY AT STEVENSON'S HOME has a long record as a drug dealer...don't want to get caught with those. Other NBA players appear involved. This is no good for anyone...of course they're going to lie. The only way this doesn't unravel is if no one involved prosecutes (the drug dealer shooting at his home). Otherwise, why wouldn't they prosecute??? Many this don't add up...shots fired from Stevenson's car, but Stevenson was sleeping and only the drug dealer was firing...huh? Read between the lines people.

Please correct your story. It was RICHARD MILLSAP who was present. He was went to the same high school as DeShawn and they played on the same basketball team. It was NOT Ronnie Millsap.
