I was trying to see if he is a draftable NBA prospect.
Whenever I've seen Carroll play -- probably six or eight times over the years -- he has looked utterly capable of finding a niche in the NBA. Shooters are in such short supply these days, I have to think he could help a team or two. Of course, he has some shortcomings. He probably doesn't have NBA point-guard skills and he's on the small side for a shooting guard. You know, like Jeff Hornacek.
A couple of weeks ago, however, I asked an NBA scout I know and trust about Carroll's pro prospects.
He was skeptical.
In a nutshell, the scout agreed that Carroll's shooting skills will make teams take a close look at him. At this point, though, the scout thought Carroll likely would have to take the summer league/developmental league road to find his place in the NBA. It's an arduous journey that can take years, and the scout said Carroll might not be the kind of young man to put his life on hold to pursue pro basketball.
In other words, Carroll has a lot more going for him than his jump shot, and making $2,000 a month in the D-League (plus $30 per diem) might not be what he wants to do at this stage in his life. Interesting, I thought.

Jaycee's shooting percentages this season (through 16 games)
FG: .542
FT: .924
3pt: .525
JJ Reddick's percentages his senior year:
FG: .470
FT: .863
3pt: .421
I know JJ played for a bigger school, against better teams, blah blah...
Jaycee is having a wonderful year. I can't help but think - if Salim Stoudamire can make it, why can't Jaycee?
