When I asked how former University of Utah star Britton Johnsen was doing in the D-League, Fredman passed along a little news.
Johnsen has left the Flash to play with a professional team in Turkey. He is leaving Friday morning, Fredman said.
I got to know Britton during the 1997-98 season, when I covered the Utes on their march to the NCAA championship game. I like him and sincerely hope he has a nice run in Turkey and gets another chance at making it in the NBA.
In eight games with the Flash, Johnsen averaged 9.8 points and 5.8 rebounds in 29 minutes. He shot 37 percent from the field, which has always been his biggest problem.
Johnsen is 6-foot-11, but he isn't built to play power forward. He is a small forward, meaning to make it in the NBA, he needs to demonstrate a consistent outside shot.
How did Johnsen play during his short time with the Flash?
"Pretty well," Fredman said. "He got better as he went along. He got his legs under him."
Johnsen underwent shoulder surgery last summer, so his days with the Flash were almost like training camp.
"Hopefully," Fredman said, "we helped him."
