I know this because I asked him.
I also asked Jazz vice president of basketball operations Kevin O'Connor if any team had sought permission to talk to any Jazz assistant and he said, "No."
Corbin is obviously an NBA head coach-in-waiting. He is intelligent, he is a student of the game and he relates well to players.
Unlike some of the high-profile candidates for vacant coaching jobs in New York, Chicago, Charlotte and Memphis, Corbin has also paid his professional dues.
Does spending two years as a "player mentor" for the North Charleston Lowgators of the D-League sound like paying your dues?
I think so, too.
Anyway, Corbin's name was brought up over the weekend in connection with the Bulls' head coaching job.
The Chicago Tribune reported that general manager John Paxson plans to interview former point guard-turned-TV-analyst Mark Jackson this week. Jackson, however, is considered a frontrunner for the Knicks' vacant coaching job, so he's probably using the Bulls as Plan B.
According to the Tribune, others on Paxson's current list of candidates includes Boston assistant Tom Thibodeau, Detroit assistant Michael Curry and Corbin.
Last summer, Corbin interviewed for the head coaching job in Seattle, which eventually when to P.J. Carlesimo.
Word of the strong impression Corbin made during the Sonics' coaching search has undoubtedly made the rounds, however, so don't be surprised if this is a continuing story.
I'm guessing several teams will talk to Corbin about a head coaching job this summer -- maybe Chicago, maybe Charlotte, maybe a team that currently has a coach but fires him after the playoffs.

Now that Larry Brown is coaching in Charlotte, Tyrone Corbin, who will definately coach in the NBA, should start talking to the organization now. This would be in preparation for next year, when Larry Brown either moves on, due to any number of reasons, or is fired by MJ. Ty Corbin, your new coach of the Charlotte Bobcats in 2009-10!
