Corbin called on Thursday afternoon -- I don't know if it was before or after he talked to Kerr -- and said his initial interview with the Suns had gone well but he has not heard of any timetable for a hiring.
Of course, Corbin also interviewed for the head coaching job in Chicago, but that one now looks like it belongs to TNT analyst Doug Collins.
One Internet story also reported that former Jazz star Jeff Hornacek will be hired as Collins' lead assistant, with the idea that he would take over when Collins steps aside. I have not been able to get ahold of Hornacek, who spent this season as a special assistant with the Jazz, but it is a logical scenario.
Hornacek grew up in suburban Chicago, where his father was a coach, although he once told me his favorite sports as a kid was hockey and he spent more time watching the Blackhawks than the Bulls.
Hornacek also has a son attending Notre Dame, which is not far from Chicago and might make leaving home in Phoenix for eight months out of the year a little more palatable.
Back to Corbin.
It looks like his primary competition for the Suns' job will come from Detroit assistant Terry Porter and Houston assistant Elston Turner, although San Antonio's Mike Budenholzer and the Lakers' Brian Shaw probably remain in the mix.
What if Corbin gets the job in Phoenix and leaves a vacancy on coach Jerry Sloan's staff in Utah?
I'm guessing Brad Jones, who spent last season as head coach of the expansion Utah Flash in the D-League, will get a long look. Sloan nearly hired Jones a couple of years ago, when Scott Layden got the job vacated when long-time assistant Gordon Chiesa left for New Jersey.
