Odds and ends
We'll have a story about Brevin Knight in Monday's paper, but in case you were wondering, Knight will tie 5-foot-10 Eddie Hughes (11 games, 1987-88 season) as the shortest player in Jazz history. There's only been three sub-6-footers to play for the team over the years, though I'm not counting Brian Chase, who made the team to start the 2006-07 season but didn't play in a game.

Knight also is one of what I will call the Courageous Four. They are the officially listed sub-6-footers in the NBA this season. New York's Nate Robinson is shortest at 5-9, followed by Knight and Orlando's Mike Wilks (5-10) and Denver's Chucky Atkins at 5-11. If I had to guess, I'd say Knight's true height is more like 5-8.

Of course, there's plenty of players in the NBA who are shorter than 6 feet, yet claim otherwise. Here's the 14 players listed as 6-0: D.J. Augustin (Charlotte), Jose Barea (Dallas), Allen Iverson (Denver), Will Bynum (Detroit), Dan Dickau (Golden State), Aaron Brooks (Houston), T.J. Ford (Indiana), Kyle Lowry (Memphis), Tyronn Lue (Milwaukee), Sebastian Telfair (Minnesota), Chris Paul (New Orleans), Jameer Nelson (Orlando), Sean Singletary (Phoenix), Dee Brown (Washington).

In case you were wondering, Matt Harpring could sit out this entire season with an ankle injury and still collect the $6.5 million he's owed for 2009-10. Harpring's contract does have injury protections, but they all have to do with the right knee on which he's had two microfracture surgeries over the years.

Harpring will earn only $2.5 million if he misses 35 or more games this season due solely to an injury to his right knee. The same would have been true had he missed 47 games combined in the 2006-07, 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons due to knee injuries. There's no way that can happen any longer without Harpring missing more than 35 games this season.

The Jazz were off Sunday, but will practice Monday morning before leaving for their preseason opener against the Lakers in Anaheim, Calif.
