Brewer said he was late because he overslept for the 10 a.m. shootaround. "I guess mistakes happen and you've got to pay for the mistakes, I guess," he said.
There was no word on who would start in Brewer's place. Kyle Korver said he heard just before leaving EnergySolutions Arena that Brewer would not be starting but he hadn't heard anything about whether he would get the call instead.
Both Deron Williams (bruised fibula head area) and Mehmet Okur (sprained right ankle) will play for the Jazz. Williams said he experienced some swelling in his knee after he was injured Sunday, but most of the swelling went down to his foot.
"I am fine," Williams said, emphatically. "There is nothing wrong with me."
The Jazz lost to Washington in November, but the Wizards (16-51) will have four different starters tonight, including forward Andray Blatche, center Darius Songaila, guard Dominic McGuire and guard Mike James.
"We're not as familiar with their team because there's a lot of bench players that are starting more," Carlos Boozer said, "so we watch tape of them, we read the scouting report, of course, and then when we get out there, you just get a feel for them, what they can do and what they can't do."
O'Connor would not say if the Jazz had fined Brewer in addition to not starting him, calling it a "private matter."
