As the Jazz cleaned out their lockers Tuesday, Williams said he was looking forward to getting at least a month of rest for the ankle he sprained in the preseason. But Williams does have a couple of events on his summer schedule.
He was one of five Nike stars selected to host his own basketball camp, which will take place in June at Southern Methodist in Dallas. The camp will bring together some of the best high school and college point guards in the country to work with Williams.
The other Nike players who will host skills camps are Amare Stoudemire, Vince Carter, Paul Pierce and LeBron James, which gives some idea of Williams' stature at least at Nike's Beaverton, Ore., headquarters.
Williams also is going to host his third-annual golf classic to benefit his Point of Hope Foundation July 11 at Thanksgiving Point. The event has been held in September in previous years, but could drawn an even bigger turnout with a mid-summer date.
On Aug. 28-29, Williams is going to be hosting his second-annual Illini Hoop Legends for Charity event. It's going to be held entirely in Champaign this year, instead of being split between Chicago and Champaign, and includes a private golf event.
Williams' representatives have tried to keep his schedule as free as possible this summer, given how busy he has been the last two summers as well as the likelihood that he will play for USA Basketball at next summer's world championships in Turkey.
There are no national team commitments for Williams this summer, but he has been asked by the United States Olympic Committee to make an appearance in support of Chicago's 2016 Olympic bid. Williams has ties to the city through his years at Illinois.
